World Doula Week has begun

World Doula Week has begun, and I’ve been a very busy Doula.
I have:
– Helped two moms with their special deliveries
– Had an article in the newspaper
– Attended local Mom’s groups to promote Doulas
– Volunteered at the Olds Location for Central Alberta Pregnancy Care Center
– Helped Organized more Q&A’s events in Olds, and one in Red Deer.

It’s been a really good month here for me even if the weather has been sub-par. I really wish the sun would melt all the snow. I feel like I’ve accomplished much and am blazing the right trail this time in my life. I hope it continues, And Happy World Doula Week to you from Me.

Back in the saddle…

Today I get to jump back on the horse per say, and bring back a role I have not had for a while. I think the entertainer in me is very excited. The practical part of me is worried if I can do it again, but as I complied my music cd, the music called to me. Yes it’s time to SLOWLY get back to Bellydancing.  After almost two years away due to my pregnancy and birth of my third child, I am really to take on that role again in a small way.

I was (and still am) a professional bellydancer, part of a troupe and have danced at many events. Most of all I miss the ladies who I consider my dance family, and I look forward to seeing them again soon. But I do have to take it slow.  It is a big time commitment and with three kids I found I needed to be home more, my husband needed me home more, and I’ve learned that I need to make sure I don’t over commit. That all being said, about a month ago I really missed Dance; The music, the ladies, the costumes, the exercise and the way it made me feel to perform, so it was time to figure out how to make time for a little dance.

Tonight I get the honor of filling in for my mentor at her regular gig, dancing at the local restaurant to bring smiles to the local patrons. I’ve done it before and am happy to do it again. A small way to get my feet wet again, and in time I will be able to do more of the dance I love and enjoy so much.

On the right track.

Well as the last two weeks of summer tick by, it seems I’ve finally starting to feel better about myself, and not just enjoying the fun we are having. I’m enjoying the clothes I have, my long hair and my tanned skin too. (Note: I am by no means a sun worshiper, but I do appreciate a little bit of color on my legs and arms.)

And Yes the exercise is finally starting to pay off, I feel better, I think I look better and my clothes are fitting better. And this is a huge boost to my confidence. It’s nice to be on the right track again when it comes to my health and mental wellness. After you have a baby, it takes time to have time again…lol… if you know what I mean, and you have to start small. This is especially true after baby number three, when the other two also need your time.

Slowly but surely it’s coming, once a week, to twice a week and even that can make a big difference. So here’s to being on the right track again in body, mind and spirit…… oh and in my closet too. : )

Big Thank you Hug.

I just want to take a moment to thank you for joining me this past week as I celebrated World Doula Week on my Blog. I hope you enjoyed my posts this week and I want to thank you for your support of my new role and my journey to being a Super-Doula. LOL. Sorry for the pun. I am just excited to be a Birth Doula and will continue to search for ways to make my services better and personalized. The joy that comes from seeing a mom and dad become parents for the first time is truly beautiful.

I am fortunate enough to have more then a few births coming up in the next few months, and I can’t wait to stand by each of them and offer words of support and encouragement or to simply hold their hand, no matter what time of day it is. Being a Doula isn’t a job for me, it’s a gift I’ve been given that I want to share. Every birth I attend is a privilege and I am humbled and honored to be a part of it.

I want to say a big thank you to my past clients and to my future clients, but there is one person who deserves the biggest thank you hug more then anyone else, for without him, I could not do any of this. As I write, I am brought to tears….. You see I have the most amazing husband, and with out HIS support, I could not do this at all. Thank you Dean for your loving care, your hours of childcare, your ears that are tired of hearing about all things baby, and still sending me out the door saying “don’t worry just go, Good luck and have fun. ”  Even though this journey for me is just beginning I feel his support stronger then any other, like we are on the same page and I truly don’t have to worry. This is where I am meant to be and he knows it to. Thank you so much! I love you Dean.

PS…. Dean you were my Doula, my support and my rock at each of my Births. Without you by my side I would not have been able to do it. You gave me strength and you believed in me. Every women should be so lucky.

XOXO

Nominated… wow.

I am sitting here at the end of my day, sorting through a few emails, and trying to tie up a few loose ends. I had a very fun day, reliving my past role as a florist, designing centerpieces; Christmas berries, hot glue gun, pinecones and glitter ribbon. I had a great time. But I’m getting sidetracked,  so I come across an email….. Approve this comment….. A new pingback is awaiting approval. Okay, so I quickly put on my detective hat and search Pingback on Google, Yes I am new to this, can you tell? And it means someone else has tagged my blog  in their blog. Hey that’s cool.  So I do some more searching and find the blog “Life Doesn’t Knock” .  It turns out she has nominated my blog for the Liebster Award, Discover new blogs.!!!! I’m shocked. Wow. That’s neat, what a boost to my confidence.  So if I have time tomorrow after my mom hat gets hung up, I’ll  do some more detective work and find out more about the Leibster Award.

I am honored and surprised. Thank you.

From Catwalk to Dance Floor….. well sorta.

Yesterday was a great day. I ditched my mom sweatpants, did my hair and make-up and out I went to strut my stuff on the Catwalk and show off my moves on the dance floor. Now my catwalk may have been a red carpet in a high end clothing store in Olds, and my dance floor a local school gym, but who cares. Yesterday I got to enjoy some time for me.

Ever since I started working a part time job in High School at a local clothing store, Side Street Fashions, I have had the honor of modeling wonderful fashions for the owner Cathy and her staff at various functions. Each year Side Street helps organize a Ladies night and fundraiser evening. Though there was one year I missed because I was 9months pregnant, I still attended the event.  One year Cathy even asked me to bellydance as entertainment part way through the show. What an honor. One year we also had Patty, a “retired” fashion model, show us how to walk. How cool is that? Well the fashion shows are such a blast  and I get to wear fantastic outfits and strut my stuff to fun music on the runway. I realized yesterday that I’ve been doing these fashion shows for Cathy for almost 15 years, so I’m one of the veterans so to speak. That’s funny to think of myself that way.  I absolutely love being part of it, and over the years I’ve learned many things, met lots of great people, gained some friendships, added some great pieces to my wardrobe and built confidence too.   So whenever Side Street calls to ask if I can model, I try to clear my schedule. Then for the evening I can pretend I am 5′ 8″ and walking the runway in Paris. It’s such a neat experience and wonderful opportunity for me to feel like a women. Yesterday was her Joseph Ribkoff sale and showing at the store, so when I got there she said “Just find something you like, put it on, talk, chat, and help people”. How neat is that? So I jumped right in and did just that, even helping a lady pick out something for a vacation.  Fun Fun. And big thanks to my mom for watching my two youngest children so I could be there.

Now my good friend and neighbor also deserves a big thank you, not only did she watch my oldest daughter after school, but she agreed to babysit my other children that evening so I could go dance. Zumba actually!!  So after a quick change of clothes, and a bite to eat,  I dropped the kids off with her and headed over the the local school gym. My dance floor awaits…… And it was fantastic! I moved, and grooved, chacha’d, fumbled over my feet a bit when Rachel added a new move, and had a great time. I like to think I have perfect latin form, lol, but even if I don’t, its a great workout and is a mental get away. I leave there feeling energized and soaked in sweat from head to toe. Both good things if you ask me.

So I am thankful for opportunities to feel beautiful. I thankful for the latin inspired workout. I am thankful for family and friends who help me out, and I am thankful I can strut my stuff and shake it too. It’s days like those that rejuvenate the soul.
